HoldMyCall

Get through to Santander UK without the hold queue

Santander runs one number for almost everything, which keeps things simple and makes the queue longer. The security check is a 5-digit number, or your voice if you've registered it. Sandi, the chat assistant in the app, takes a lot of the routine load.

What HoldMyCall does on a Santander UK call

  1. 1

    Dials and waits

It rings 0330 9 123 123, works through the menu and sits in the queue for up to an hour. You get on with your day.

  2. 2

    Has the conversation

It introduces itself as an AI assistant calling on your behalf, gives the details you provided when asked, and keeps asking for the outcome you wanted.

  3. 3

    Reports back

A summary, whether it got what you asked for, any reference numbers, and the full transcript and recording. If they insist on speaking to you, your phone rings and one keypress joins the live call.

Things people ask it to sort with Santander UK

  • Query an interest rate change

“The rate on my savings account dropped last month and I wasn't told. Find out the current rate, when it changed, and what notice I should have had.”

  • Chase a disputed transaction

“I disputed a card payment three weeks ago and haven't heard back. Find out the status and when the money will be refunded.”

  • Ask about switching accounts

“Find out what's involved in moving my current account to another bank using the switching service, and whether any products are tied to it.”

Have these ready

Whether you ring or the assistant does, Santander UK will want some of these before they will talk about your account.

  • Personal ID or card number, and your 5-digit security number
  • Sort code and account number
  • Details of any payment or product you're asking about

Save them once in Settings and every call starts with them filled in. The assistant only gives a detail when it is asked for it, and it is hard-coded to refuse payments and contract changes.

Other ways to reach Santander UK

You sometimes get an answer faster by another route. These are the ones Santander UK publishes.

  • Chat with us in Mobile or Online Banking; the assistant Sandi runs 24 hours
  • Branch, including booked appointments
  • Post for complaints: Complaints, Santander UK plc, Sunderland, SR43 4GD

If Santander UK won't sort it

Ring the complaints line, use chat in the app, write to the Sunderland address or visit a branch. Payment complaints are settled within 15 days, everything else within 56.

Financial Ombudsman Service. Free, after the bank's final answer or once 8 weeks have passed without one. You must go to the ombudsman within 6 months of the final answer.

Banks run security checks before they discuss an account. If they won't go through security with the assistant, it can ring you and bring you into the call to do that part yourself.
