Get through to Universal Credit (DWP) without the hold queue
The Universal Credit helpline is where you end up when the journal hasn't been answered, a payment is wrong, or something has changed and needs saying to a person. The hold is long and the people on the line are trying to help within a system that gives them little room.

What HoldMyCall does on a Universal Credit (DWP) call
- 1
Dials and waits
It rings 0800 328 5644, works through the menu and sits in the queue for up to an hour. You get on with your day.
- 2
Has the conversation
It introduces itself as an AI assistant calling on your behalf, gives the details you provided when asked, and keeps asking for the outcome you wanted.
- 3
Reports back
A summary, whether it got what you asked for, any reference numbers, and the full transcript and recording. If they insist on speaking to you, your phone rings and one keypress joins the live call.
Things people ask it to sort with Universal Credit (DWP)
Chase a missing payment
“My Universal Credit payment was due on the 7th and hasn't arrived. Find out why and when it will be paid.”
Query a deduction
“My statement shows a deduction I don't recognise. Find out what it's for, how long it will last, and whether it can be reduced.”
Report a change
“My rent has gone up and I've updated the journal but had no reply. Confirm the change has been recorded and when the housing element will be updated.”
Have these ready
Whether you ring or the assistant does, Universal Credit (DWP) will want some of these before they will talk about your account.
- National Insurance number
- Your date of birth and postcode
- Details of the payment or change you're asking about, with dates
Save them once in Settings and every call starts with them filled in. The assistant only gives a detail when it is asked for it, and it is hard-coded to refuse payments and contract changes.
