Get through to Barclays without the hold queue
Barclays answers the phone at any hour, which is more than most, but the line is designed around telephone banking credentials. If you've never registered, the first call is about getting registered, and the actual question waits for the second.
Barclays customer service
0345 734 5345- Opening hours
- 24 hours, 7 days a week
- When you ring
- Asks for your telephone banking membership number and passcode, or voice security if you've set it up. Calling through the app skips the opening questions.
- Worth knowing
- Open round the clock, but built around registered telephone banking details. Without them you'll get general help only.

What HoldMyCall does on a Barclays call
- 1
Dials and waits
It rings 0345 734 5345, works through the menu and sits in the queue for up to an hour. You get on with your day.
- 2
Has the conversation
It introduces itself as an AI assistant calling on your behalf, gives the details you provided when asked, and keeps asking for the outcome you wanted.
- 3
Reports back
A summary, whether it got what you asked for, any reference numbers, and the full transcript and recording. If they insist on speaking to you, your phone rings and one keypress joins the live call.
Things people ask it to sort with Barclays
Dispute a card payment
“There's a payment on my account I don't recognise, about £60 from last Thursday. Find out what it is, and if it isn't mine, get a dispute raised and a reference number.”
Chase a complaint
“I raised a complaint three weeks ago and have heard nothing. Find out its status and when I'll get an answer.”
Register for telephone banking
“Find out how to register for telephone banking and what I need to have ready, without changing anything on the account.”
Have these ready
Whether you ring or the assistant does, Barclays will want some of these before they will talk about your account.
- Telephone banking membership number and passcode, if registered
- Sort code and account number
- Details of the payment, card or product you're asking about
Save them once in Settings and every call starts with them filled in. The assistant only gives a detail when it is asked for it, and it is hard-coded to refuse payments and contract changes.
Other ways to reach Barclays
You sometimes get an answer faster by another route. These are the ones Barclays publishes.
- Message through Help in the Barclays app, or Contact us in Online Banking
- Video call from Online or Mobile Banking
- Branch
- Post for complaints: Freepost Barclays Customer Relations
- SignVideo BSL service, Mon to Fri 8am to 8pm, Sat 8am to 1pm
If Barclays won't sort it
Ring the complaints line, write to Freepost Barclays Customer Relations, or go into a branch. Payment complaints get a written answer within 15 days, everything else within 8 weeks.
Financial Ombudsman Service. Free, after the bank's final answer or once 8 weeks have passed without one. You must go to the ombudsman within 6 months of the final answer.
Banks run security checks before they discuss an account. If they won't go through security with the assistant, it can ring you and bring you into the call to do that part yourself.
Let it ring Barclays for you.
First 5 calls are free while we're in beta. The assistant never pretends to be human, and every word is yours to keep.
